Scratch Screw up

I am trying to learn how to be domestic.  I have always been a clean person so that's not an issue.  Laundry is coming along, I can separate colors and textures etc depending on how lazy I am. But cooking is a whole different planet.  I have lived on my own sans school cafeteria for about 4 years now,  and have been keeping  Lean Cuisine in business ever since.   I started to attempt cooking the month that I was home before heading here and did a pretty decent job aka didnt burn down the house or give anyone food poisoning.   Cooking is similar to a science experiment in the sense that your following a recipe adding things in order, sitrring, boiling, heating, and cooling yet I cant figure it out especially the whole freelance thing were you just create your own dishes.  Anyways, so its a euro tradition that on your birthday you bring  a treat for everyone to share.  Sooooo Craig's birthday tomorrow and he had practice this afternoon which meant I was in charge of making the brownies.   Since I am  attempting to be more like Martha Stewart I decided to forgo the pre-made bakery section of the grocery store and  go the homemade route.  It took us about 30 mins just to find the 5 ingredients to make the brownies.  The one thing that we didnt really find was cocoa powder.  Instead we bought these two pudding like containers of fudge and 2 huge bars of baking chocolate.  And then I was left on my own.   What I learned:

- Chocolate melts and burns really fast
-so does butter
- make sure you have a measuring cup
- just because the top is burnt doesn't mean its cooked all the way through

Trying to make Aunt Kim and Kaylea proud

What happened was that the pan was bigger then the amount of batter I made so they are really thin and when I shake the pan the top is solid but underneath is still soft/liquidy. I tried to put them back in but then the top began to burn even more, so they are what they are.  Martha needs a nap.
