Sold on Sölden

This week the National Teams are competing which means some break time for Craig (Monday and then a long weekend coming up), so now I get to do some more vacationing on my vacation.
Things are really rough over here ...

So on Monday we traveled  to Sölden for the day/night.  The town is only about an hour away and is our favorite spot so far.  It's a hard town to describe it has a small ski town vibe but doesnt feel forced...more natural then most of the ski towns I've been too.  It was beautiful but wasn't attempting to be trendy or posh.

When we first got there we drove through the town to scope things out.   I told Craig to keep driving which turned into climbing and a whole bunch of switch backs which then lead us to the  Ötztaler Glacier Toll Road which is 2,800 meters above sea level and has an average grade of 11%.  The road brings you up to one of the ski areas glaciers.

It was below freezing at the top and some weather was moving in so we just had a quick cappuccino in the lodge and headed back down.  This was the first time working the video on my DSLR so I missed the scary parts of the way down but hopefully you can kind of see how sketchy the road was...we really put the Shark Nugget to the test!

The Grizzly- where we parked our butts for a couple hours...reminded me of  a bar you would find in Girdwood, AK

Good-bye Sölden we will be back!

Tomorrow will be my first day on skis...going to hike up Axamer Lizum and poach some trails to try out  my new equipment (thanks Ivar and Clermont : ) ...video to follow!
