"Little full, lotta sap"

This week was dedicated to Christmas decorating.  Craig's had Home Alone 1 & 2 on repeat since before Thanksgiving ( Im sure Elf is next) and we have already watched Christmas Vacation (first of many) so I figured that it was definitely time to decorate the apartment.  First thought was we need a tree...second was we need ornaments for the tree. Sure,  I could have just went out and bought them but when you have all the time in the world why not make your own?  So, that's what I did I made my own dough ornaments just like we all did when we were in 1st grade.  Some of mine actually look like I should still be in the 1st grade...I blame it on no cookie cutters and just a butchers knife.

I picked up some watercolor paint at the store and went to work.  It did feel a little weird sitting there diligently painting the dough...I had thoughts like

-what the hell am I doing
-am I really doing this right now
-didnt I go to college(s)?

but then I was like ....

-when will I ever have time to make my own ornaments
-I want my tree to have character
-why the hell not?

After I was done painting I actually had a skype convo with my friends Jaime and Jen and I was telling them what I had just accomplished and I just bursted out laughing because in a way it does sound a little too Martha for me. Just completely out of character, but in the end I am proud of my little ornaments and I wont feel wasteful not bringing them back with us because they only cost about 2 Euros to make!
That's a Ski boot and Skate if you couldnt tell...

So here is our little tree.  It was love at first sight.  We went to what would be comparable to Home Depot here to pick it out.  They did have normal ones but there was something about this mini tree...I knew it would be perfect for our apartment.   I also took wrapping paper and cut it up into strips, taped together into links, and put them around the tree.  I took a spare sheet and used it as the skirt and then put the rest of the wrapping paper around the little table (I know...I know).  Craig even had a little Clark W. Griswold moment with the lights!

If you remember I also used this for my Jackolantern

\

I also had a big week the in kitchen

Quinoa, zucchini, Parmesan encrusted  chicken
chili

Protein heart healthy cookies (no sugar, flour, or butter)

little crispy....

now were talking...I made about 30 of them and they
are almost gone so I'd say they were pretty good.

Sometimes it feels a little silly doing some of the things I do day to day.   It's a huge transition coming from working and school to all this free time. Explaining that I spent the day making dough ornaments seems a little ridiculous. But what I have come to realize is that just because I am not always using the academic side of my brain doesnt mean that I am not learning everyday.  Its just a different kind of knowledge that I am acquiring, and I am having fun while doing it so that's all the really matters!
